The email that got the reply and the page that converts both have a formula baked inside. Claude can pull that formula out and hand it back as a template you own. This post turns that one move into a system you can run on anything.

Here is what this post puts in your hands:

🛠️ The four asks that turn any winner into a fill-in-the-blank template.

⛔ Two mistakes to avoid.

📋 Top 20 use cases Claude users reverse engineer the most.

🎁 My Blueprint meta prompt that runs the entire reverse engineer system on anything you feed it.

Start From Something That Already Works

Ask Claude to “write me a great landing page” and you get the average of every landing page it has ever read. Hand it a page that actually converts and ask what makes it work, and you get the recipe behind that specific winner.

Anthropic’s own prompting guide calls examples one of the most reliable ways to steer what Claude produces. Reverse engineering runs that advice backward: instead of hoping Claude copies the shape of an example, you make it name what the example is doing.

Get the Original in Front of Claude

Claude cannot study what it cannot see, so step one is always getting the original into the chat. There are three ways in.

If it is text you can select, copy and paste it. A post, a sales email, a video transcript, a bio. Select the whole thing and paste it into the message box along with your instructions. Claude gets every word exactly as written.

If it lives at a web address, give Claude the link. A competitor's sales page, a news article, a YouTube description, a product listing. Paste the URL and tell Claude what you want done with it.

If it is visual, or it will not load, attach it. Ad screenshots, page designs, resumes as PDFs. Bigger, sharper screenshots keep more detail, and one chat holds up to 20 attachments, which is a whole swipe file.

Ask for the Blueprint, Not a Book Report

Here is the setup. Someone in your industry posted on LinkedIn and it exploded: 2,000 likes, 300 comments, shares everywhere.

Ask for these four things and Claude writes a blueprint template, instead of an exhaustive book report.

#1 An expert role, stated first.

Open with:
“Act as a LinkedIn ghostwriter who writes for founders.”

One sentence, and Anthropic’s docs confirm it shifts the output. A ghostwriter pulls a hook-and-story blueprint from that post. A social media manager pulls a posting-strategy blueprint. Same post, two different blueprints, so name the expert first.

#2 The skeleton.

Say:
“Break this post into its sections in order, with the rough share of the total each one takes.”

Claude comes back with: 5 percent hook (one line), 25 percent personal story, 50 percent lesson, 20 percent question at the end. That first line being only 5 percent of the post but doing most of the work is your first real finding.

#3 The moves.

Write:
“For each section, name the job it does on the reader.”

Claude tells you the hook opens a curiosity gap the reader has to scroll to close, the story makes the author human before the teaching starts, the lesson delivers the payoff, and the closing question manufactures the comments that push the post into more feeds. Now you know why the post spread, not just what it said.

#4 A fill-in-the-blank template.

Close with:
“Turn all of this into a fill-in-the-blank template, with [BRACKETS] marking every spot where my own content goes.”

You get back: [ONE-LINE HOOK THAT SOUNDS SLIGHTLY WRONG OR SURPRISING], [SHORT STORY OF A SPECIFIC FAILURE WITH A DOLLAR AMOUNT OR TIMEFRAME], [THE LESSON IN THREE SHORT PARAGRAPHS], [QUESTION THAT INVITES DISAGREEMENT]. That template writes your next 20 posts.

And that leave you with:

“Act as a LinkedIn ghostwriter. Break this post into sections with the share each takes. Name the job each section does on the reader. Then turn it into a fill-in-the-blank template with [BRACKETS] where my content goes.”

Mistakes to Avoid

⛔ Learning from a single example. One post teaches you that one author’s habits. Three winners teach you the formula they share. Whenever you can gather two or three similar examples, do it, and tell Claude to keep only what repeats.

⛔ Studying a winner that won for other reasons. A weak post from a famous name still gets numbers. Before you extract, ask whether this piece would have worked from an unknown account. If the answer is no, the formula is fame, and you cannot template that.

The Blueprint Meta Prompt

Here’s my meta prompt that I paste into Claude whenever I want a reverse engineered blueprint.

It does all of the following:

  • Names the exact genre, then assigns itself the matching expert

  • Maps the skeleton: every section and its share

  • Names the move each section performs on the reader

  • Surfaces the invisible decisions doing the real work

  • Delivers a fill-in-the-blank template with a built-in checklist

  • Swap tests its own template to verify it works

  • Writes your first draft, then grades its own work

Paste the meta prompt below into a new chat and add the piece you are wanting to reverse engineer.
